Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy which consists of burning dried mugwort on particular points on the body. It plays an important role in the traditional medical systems of China (including Tibet), Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Mongolia. Practitioners use moxa to warm regions and meridian points with the intention of stimulating circulation through the points and inducing a smoother flow of blood and qi. Moxa can be applied in a variety of ways. I believe strongly in teaching people how to do moxa at home for independent, self-care.
How is moxa applied?
Moxa can be used directly on acu-points during acupuncture treatment or applied indirectly with specialized tools. The smoke of the Moxa heats the body and provides therapeutic relief for inflammation and circulatory concerns.
