Every year, there is a flood of “fad diets” that make headlines and have everyone hopping. Right now, the “Keto Diet”, “Going Paleo”, Intermittent Fasting and Plant Based Foods are becoming popular and brining our patients in with many questions about the value of adopting a new eating plan. In my onion, every prescriptive type of diet plan has its own unique benefits. Generally, they ALL help people become more mindful and intentional about their nutrition and get in touch with how their body responds to food. But if I were to make one, universal recommendation to all of my clients it would be to simply: eliminate all sugar.
It may seem extreme. It may seem boring. It may require some label reading and a reboot of your taste buds. But, over time, it is the easiest, no frill way to apply the core principle of every (effective) fad diet ever developed. Because by eliminating sugar, you will automatically reduce your intake of processed foods, eat more vegetables and eventually retrain your body manage insulin and fix your metabolism, (and lose weight).
